Specs: Windows 7
I have upgraded my CPU from an e6600 to a q9650,
however when it boots up it almost instantly turns off
again and then turns back on but hangs straight away.
I was earthed and applied thermal compound to the
CPU. The motherboard is an MSI P35 Diamond. I put
the e6600 back in at it did the same turning off and
back on but it didn't hang and booted to windows.

And you have to apply the thermal compund correctly. For a quad, use a small, thin line across the center of the CPU, but it MUST be oriented in the right direction.
