Comment: I have a dilemma. For the past month, my computer refused to operate correctly. At first it was minor things, like freezing up and having to be restarted, restarting on its own, and then I started getting "CMOS Checksum error--Defaults loaded" messages on some times that I started the computer up. I got suggestions to change the CMOS battery, which I did (with a screwdriver oops!), and now the computer won't start at all. I took it to a shop, and they suggested I change the memory, which I did. A third suggestion was that i might have fried the motherboard and need to buy a new one, but I don't know if that's the case. Now it just powers on, I hear the drive as if it's trying to boot, but it just sits there. It doesn't even send a signal to the monitor, because the light on the monitor just blinks. Got any suggestions before I take it to another shop? They would be greatly appreciated!!

Reply: (edit)Did you injure the battery housing with the screwdriver? If you did, I'd replace the MOBO etc. Since it is a P2 133 (?), we're probably talking about a new computer

Reply: (edit)with a very old cmputer like that it could be a combination of things motherboard for sure is one as badboy said its time for a major overhall or a new computer it appears you dont need any thing that fast so a heres a good deal on a motherboard combo. http://www.target-sale.com/tusa/items/combo/i03487.html you will need a 300 wat power supply to pick one up for about 14.00 on pricewatch.com put your 2000 windows back on and your computer will be a lot faster at under a 100.00 $..and you will not need a agp card its on board video.

Reply: (edit)I don't think the battery housing was damaged, because the new cmos battery snapped right in when i inserted it. I was kinda hoping I didn't need to buy a new motherboard, but I guess that's my next option. Thanks guys.
