computer won't boot past 1st screen

Dell / 530s

Specs: Windows Vista
I am on a different computer & don't know CPU/Ram information. I had some virus' 3 days ago which my v-secure software got rid of. For the next 2 days everything worked fine. This morning when I went to my office I noticed the black screen with the blue Dell logo in the center was on it. I truned it off & tried to restart it but all it does is make the fan running sound and goes off quickly, a short beep & only goes to that same screen. At the top of the screen it says press F2 for Setup or F12 for Boot Menu. Both keys, when pressed, shows it is loading at the bottom of the screen, but it never does & the only sound I can hear is if I put my ear next to the hard drive I hear a low hum. I appreciate any help

If the subject computer is a Dell Inspiron 530s, apparently it's a slim desktop computer.

See response 1 in this:

The way of removing the cover would be different from mentioned in that info - if you can't figure that out, see the Owner's or User's manual on the Dell site for your model.

If that info doesn't help......

Check your hard drive with the manufacturer's diagnostics.

Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities

If you don't have a floppy drive, you can get a CD image diagnostic utility from most hard drive manufacturer's web sites, but obviously you would need to make a burned CD, preferably a CD-R for best compatibilty, on another computer if you need to.

Yes, it is an Inspiron tower. I will let you know if any of this works later today when I have some help to fool with it. I appreciate your fast response & I have my fingers crossed. :)
