Our family computer started beeping while we were eating dinner. It was consistently beeping every one/two seconds (probably more like 2) and would continue to do so until we powered it down. The computer would not boot up and there was nothing to display. Leads me to believe that it was probably a heat issue. I removed the RAM and still beeped. I unplugged HD and still beeped. Took out all Hardware and still beeped. Took out the processor and beeping went away. Would there be some kind of beep w/ the processor removed if it wasn't the problem? Side note: all the CD drives spin up, the HD appears to power up properly, but the CPU fan is spinning extremely fast.....Any suggestions?

The beeping is consistent. It doesn't go from 1 to 2 seconds or 3 to 4 or whatever. It just keeps beeping at the same pace until I power it off......I'm thinking CPU.
Thanks

You need a working CPU, bios and at least a partially working motherboard to get beeps.

With no cpu there will be no beeps, regardless of whether the cpu is good or bad. The cpu could be bad but the fact that removing it stops the beeps is not proof of that.

Okay. Thanks for the clarification. So do you think that it is the CPU then? I have removed everything else from the machine (not all at once obviously, but one by one). Unless it is a mobo issue.......

I'd think it could be either. Maybe the power supply too. The only clue is the beeps. Check HP's support page for your model and look for tech support or a FAQ with beep codes as the subject.
