Computer won't boot any more after crashes.

Specs: Windows 7, AMD 64 X2 2600, 4 GB ram
Two weeks ago I began having some random crashes like a short and system would generally reboot or try to boot up. One time when it wouldn't do anything I giggled the main motherboard plug in and it started up the fans and lights. I reseated this plug in so it feels connected. Now it starts to boot and shows the screen Windows Starting for about 20 seconds. Then it goes black and often shows message monitor going to sleep which I think means it has lost video signal.

I have three hard drives that can boot up and it acts the same on all three. Two have Windows 7 Pro, one has XP Pro. It will boot up into safe mode and I have run memory diagnostic which showed nothing. Norton virus and spyware scans showed no problems.

What kind of hardware problems can cause such behavior?

Try to disable all services and start-up items in system configuration utility (start>run>type msconfig)

It started working again but I don't know why it wouldn't work before. It think it must have been either a loose connection or some kind of intermittent short.
