hi,
I have a hp pavilion m9040n pc and a refirbished hp w 2207 monitor when we press the power button on the top of the computer the power light comes on but the light for the hard drive does not. the monitor stays black not even a flicker on the screen. the only way to get it to turn on is to unplug power supply drain power from pc and unplug monitor. press power it will start then i can plug the monitor back into the computer. I have sent this computer to hp 6 times. mother board is fine. After restarting it that way so many times the computer then won't start no matter what and i have to send it back to hp. Hp is baffled. could it be my monitor causing all this? How can I fix it?HELP! I'm going crazy with this.

It's not a good idea to plug the monitor in while the computer is running. You can damage the video card, monitor, and even the motherboard. Monitors aren't hot swappable.
PCI cards/USB devices can prevent the system from posting. Remove all PCI cards and USB devices and try to boot. Also unplug any hard drives and optical drives. You don't need a hard drive for the system to post.
If the PC has 2 RAM sticks, remove the one from the second slot and leave the first one in. If you still have problems, take that one out and put the second one in the first slot and try it.
A failing power supply can cause this. Do you have random restarts or BSODs while the system does run?
