Computer will not turn on after lighting

July 7, 2011 at 07:08:29
Specs: Windows xp
My computer will not power on after lighting struck near by. There’s a green light on the back near the power supply and that’s it. It was on a surge protector and all other things plugged into it like the printer and monitor are still working even the modem. If it’s fried will I still be able to get my information off my hard drive?

It's hard to say what the lightning took out. A surge protector is no guarantee against lightning. If it won't boot anymore, it could be the power supply or the mobo, or both. You can remove the hard drive and slave it onto a working machine, If it's not fried, you should be able to get the info off of it. I would try a new power supply first.
