Computer will not recognize external drive

September 30, 2011 at 13:25:39
Specs: Windows 7, intel i7-2600 /8 GB ram
I purchased a 2 TB WD external drive. It is recognized and works great on a recently purchased Acer Windows 7 computer. I now have an Acer CM6850 with Windows 7 (purchased 2 weeks ago) and it will not recognize the WD external drive. I tried an older 2 GB external enclosure and it is recognized and works great. Any help would be appreciated.

See if it's listed in Disk management. If it is, you may have to assign it a drive letter.

Thanks! It was listed but would not allow me to assign a drive letter. It is a 3.0 USB and I was connecting it to a 3.0 port on the computer. I finally connected it to a 2.0 port, deleted the drivers in Device Manager and it finally worked. A little frustrating because why have 3.0 USB if you can't use it, but at least it is working and I once again have my files back.
