OS: winxp mc
CPU/Ram: intel dg35ec
Comment:

i went through a few of the posts on here looking to see what's been suggested and so far everything i've tried has been unsuccessful.

here's the deal, brand new motherboard, brand new cpu, brand new ram sticks. when i press the power button, i get nothing. literally nothing. no fan spinning, no hard drive/cd rom spinning.

on a hunch, i stripped it to the bare minimum. just the power source and motherboard, no ram. when i turn the psu switch on (checked the 115 switch), i get a red light on it as well as a green light on the motherboard itself. still won't respond to the front power switch (even tried shorting the two power switch wires). with the ram installed, i get no light on either the psu or the motherboard.

ideas?

Just to make sure:

Both power connectors on the MB are connected right?

The newer MB's have two power connectors, BOTH need to be connected (I made this mistake building my last machine)

Here's a picture:

Both of those need to be connected to MB, or it won't power up.

You should ALWAYS benchtest a board before installing it in a case. Take it out & start from scratch. See response #2:

Try another Power Supply, but first be sure it has enough power for your new MOBO.

You did lay the MOBO on a non-conductive surface, right? Plastic or cardboard- wood.

Double check that the Processor fan is not connected to a Case Fan Receptacle. No fan, No run.

There is nothing to learn from someone who already agrees with you.

Tell us about your power supply...make/model, wattage & amperage specs.

Actually, list ALL your system specs. You haven't told us anything about your hardware other than your board which might be an Intel DG35EC?

mobo: intel dg34ec
cpu: intel core 2 duo
psu: panther 450w or
raidmax 380w (replaced this one)
ram: 2 sticks of samsung 1 gb ddr2

i've got a 300 gb ide hard drive and a dvdrw ide drive as well

i did try placing the mobo on a non-conductive surface and got identical results. light on psu and mobo but nothing spinning without the ram. with the ram i get nothing.

i already double checked the cpu fan plug and it was in the proper slot.

what's throwing me off is that i get lights without ram and nothing with.

The Raidmax 380W is a $13 PSU. It only has 11A on the +12v rail. It's a cheap low end piece of garbage (as are most Raidmax PSUs) & it doesn't come close to fulfilling the requirements for a Core 2 Duo system. What's a 450W Panther? Is that another Raidmax?

Before that make sure a)there is power on the outlet b)the power cable is secure in the power supply c)the switch on the PS is set to 110 (if your in the states) d)the power switch on the PS is set to ON (a solid line usually) e) the power connector is connected to the motherboard correctly and securely f)the power switch is operating correctly and in the correct header pins on the motherboard.
