Comment:
to keep a long story short, my notebook a gateway 4538GZ will not boot but instead continuously loops between the loading screen and the screen displaying the various boot methods. clicking any of the options results in a restart and return to that page. on top of that, my cd drive is not reading the restore cds that came with the computer. i have tried booting from a ubuntu live cd, but the drive wont read that either. i suspect some sort of virus as my norton just expired, but i cant fix it if i cant access anything... im pretty much out of ideas at this point.

So heres an update, i tried using ERD from my usb, but that didnt work. apparently my laptop, being from 2005 does not support boot from usb. my next question would be whether or not id be able to boot from an external cd drive as it uses a usb.
