Specs: Windows XP
alright here's the thing
This computer will turn on and then off but here's the catch to this it will turn on when nothing is hooked up into it no hard drives or CD ROM. but when i hook in a hard drive or a CD ROM and turn it on it well shut it self back off.
I checked the power supply tho i pulled the old one out and put a new one in does the same thing but when i plugged the old power supply back in it would not even turn on. however when i plugged the old power supply to another computer it turns on.
i hope i didn't go to far with the question hope you can understand it too :p.

I'm not sure how much information i could get the details about the computer but if needed I'll try and supply it.

Some detail of the hardware would be helpful. What brand & Model is the motherboard? The model number is usually located adjacent to ram slots or somewhere near outer edge of the board. Are the optic & Hard drives both IDE and are they on the same ribbon cable? Do you have a spare cable you can try? Is the cable fully seated in the motherboard?

What brand/model & specification are the two powersupplies you have tested.
Check the tops of capacitors on the motherboard. Any signs of bulging or leaking?

If the system is a brand-name thing then what make/model?
