Computer turns off during boot

Dell / Optiplex 270

Specs: Windows xp sp2, 2.4 ghz / IGB
I've had this problem for a few months now but its getting worse.

When i turn on my computer, its gets to the dell loading screen then the computer turns itself off.

I've got to keep turning it on about 10 times before i actually get to windows, then it works fine.

What does people think the problem could be, could it be that the bios needs upgrading.

I cleaned installed windows xp, so its not a virus issue.

Any solutions please

assuming its desktop and not laptop?
sounds like pwr supply may be getting flakey.
if access to another p.s., try seeing what happens
when boot using that. also make sure fans and air
cooling are adequate. you've prbly thot of all this,
so don get mad, just sugg.

I would suspect that the CPU fan is getting old and not starting up all the time.
