Last night my cousin accidently spilled some beer on his Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop. We were unsure what to do and immediately turned the computer off. We opened it up and allowed it to drain out. We tried drying it lightly with a hair dryer on a cool setting. This morning we put the computer back together and tried turning it on, but it would not turn on at all. No lights light up at all and the computer will not start. We opened it up and cleaned it with wipes and bought air spray. The computer still will not start and the lights will not even light up that it is plugged in. It doesn't work on battery either. Please give me suggestions. Thanks guys.

not to get you down or anything but that could be detrimental to the computer. you may have to replace some of the parts that the beer spilled on. it might have gotten into the electronical parts which i wouldnt know how to fix. best of luck with that one

while plain water wont hurt somethiong electronic if that something is immediatley turned off upon spill and thorgholy dried out, beer contains some sugar (or sugar substitute) that can a)eat away at connections on a microscopic level, severing some electronic connetion, or b)coat some connection with a layer that acts as an insulator. that laptop wont work again without replacment parts or extensive, and expensive, detailed curcuit repairs, but first you would have to pinpoint the problem.

Since you took the comp aparts, why dont' you check it again if you have plug everything correctly. I dont think it is dead yet..hopefully.

Since beer has sugar and other stuff which is sticky, i would try to clean the parts with a slighty wet napkin and then dry them with hair blower, depend on the parts though.

BTW, how much beer did you waste on it? a cup?

If you have already called this one gone try this, get some distilled water and really wash that puppy out, remove the battery’s that you can get to along with the hard drive and memory, people don’t realize that one of the final steps in most circuit board assembly is a final wash down with water in order to remove any debris and residue left behind during assembly, hold it at an angle when wetting it down "you don’t want to drown it" then use a soft bristle paint brush to get down there and really clean it out, rinse and dry....Let us know if you get it back...

Keep the old stuff running

LinuxOS2, to be precise that last water shower is done to remove any flux remained from the wave soldering machine.

Cball9910, you could use isopropil achool to wash the baby out.

And as sugested i think the problem is in you reaseambling the laptop so check that out again 51 times ;))

We have taken it apart and tried cleaning it again with no success. I also noticed that the green light on the charger goes dead as soon as it is plugged into the laptop. It won't come back on until it is unplugged from the computer and unplugged from the wall and then back in.
