computer speakers work with ac power but not

November 20, 2010 at 18:58:13
Specs: Windows 7
My speakers that came with my computer (HP) quit working. The run off of a USB, so I tried changing ports. That didn't work, so to make sure it wasn't the sound card, I borrowed a friends. These speakers used AC power, and worked fine. I went out and bought some new speakers today (USB) and once again they won't work. I know the USB ports are good, because they work for other stuff (DVD, Mouse/Keyboard/). I'm really confused as to why they won't work.

USB speakers don't use the computer's sound card. They have the equivalent of a built in sound card. So likely they're either not getting enough power through the USB port or there's a problem with your USB ports. For the former you might try a powered USB hub. For the latter maybe update your USB drivers.

If you can't get them going you always have the option of using 'regular' speakers.
