My computer is about 6 years old now. And today I was online and all of a sudden my computer just shut off like if the power went out. But my monitor was still on. So then I pushed the power button and nothing happen. So I took off the cover to see if anything was wrong and nothing was wrong. So then I tried starting it up and it did. Then a couple of seconds on the desktop it shuts off again. This time I cleaned up all the fans and at the same time let it cool. And right now Ive been online for a couple of seconds and nothing has happen yet. So my idea right now is that I think its a PSU problem? or somekind of overheating of the PSU? because it seems like if I try to turn it back on almost right away it doesnt turn on, but if I wait a while and let it cool it turns on. So can anyone confirm what is the problem so I can fix it ASAP? I seriously dont want nothing else to get messed up, and I dont want to run the risk of losing my data. Thanks for the help in advanced.

I would bet on it being the power supply. They tend to go with no warning sign.

Is there good air flow through the power supply? Vents on the inside can get plugged up with dust bunnies and then the fan can't move any air.

I dont think there is much if any air flow. For a while I was hearing this like whining noise coming from the PSU, so Im guessing the fan is not quite working correctly. If so should I just buy a new PSU?

The fan can be replaced, but it depends upon your handyman level.

Not very goot when it comes to PSU, I herd they are dangerous. Im a newb to electricity stuff so I should just stay away. But if the fan is bad, that shouldnt cause the shut offs, so maybe the PSU is dying?

If you aren't getting any airflow through the PSU, that is not good. If the fan is spinning at it's normal speed and you don't have any airflow, do like I said earlier and check the holes in the PSU inside the case, to make sure they aren't blocked up. If they are open I suggest that you replace the power supply.
