Hey! I have this problem with my computer shutting down itself. I know many have posted about it but I'd like to hear your opinion on this.
AMD 2500+ barton
Abit nforce Rev 2.0
512*2 Twinmos at 366ddr
Radeon 9800pro that needs extra power.
PSU: 300Wso, what do you think the prob could be? This is wierd btw.. My radeon is 5 days old but I didn't have any probs the 3 first days. Then all of a sudden the comp started to shut down itself more and more often. Now I can't complete a 3dmark03 test nor stresstest with prime95 without a shutdown. How can it get worse when I haven't changed anything apart from removing my OC's because of the instability?

Dream,
You are on the edge of the power requirements with a 300 Watt power supply when using a 9800 card. Overclocking would have most likely put it over the edge. Either the power supply is becoming problematic, or the Radeon card is running too hot. The obvious cheaper solution, providing you haven't damaged the Radeon, is to replace the power supply with something in the region of 400 to 500 watts.Safe Computing...:o)

Thanks, pcfixingguy, that could be a good idea.

hmm, check this out!I put the volts under standard:
cpu: standard1.65v-> now 1.57
mobo: 1.5v -> now 1.4Now I can complete my 3dmark03 and do safe priming AND I got 200 more points in 3dmark than with normal volts..
I've seen this before. Why the hell does it get faster with less volts?!

ReD,
The voltage is equivalent to a LOGIC 1, with 0.7 Volts being LOGIC 0. If the voltage representing LOGIC 1 is dropped, then it takes LESS time to reach that level when running the data. It is more complicated than that, but that will suffice for now. A bonus is that, as long as you don't overclock the frequency, then the CPU and other components will actually run cooler and use less wattage. I know that there will be loads of people out there that will entertain all sorts of mathematical electronics calculations, but if it is working now, then GAME ON!!!Safe Computing...:o)

Hmmm.. getting my post names mixed,, Sorry,, DREAMFLUID...lol. ReD is a different post...lol
Anyway,, GAME ON!!!Safe Computing..:o)

np, Thanks pcfix! :)
Buying a Radeon 9800Pro was a really good buy. $220 and 6000 3dmark03 points(5949) slighty overclocked.
Wasn't there a auto-OC function for Radeons, where you just needed to press a button for it to get the most out of the card?

"If the voltage representing LOGIC 1 is dropped, then it takes LESS time to reach that level when running the data"
but it still takes exactly the same time to complete a clock cycle, assuming he hasn't changed the clock. Changes to voltage will lower the heat but will not affect the speed.

I have the same exact problem the computer is shutting down by itself everytime i play a 3d game,i tried everything(new drivers for the card, new agp mini-port drivers, changing agp aperture size from 64 to 128, turning off fast writes, updating bios, etc)
These are the specs of the PC:Athlon XP 2000+
Gigabyte GA-7DXE
256*2 DDR PC266
Radeon 9800 Pro
DVD-ROM/DVD-RW+RW
2 Hard drives
Lan Card, SATA controller pci card
Sound Blaster Live
PSU:350WI'm wondering if it's overheating the CPU temp. is 55 ºC and case 41 ºC idle and active is 57~58 ºC and case 42~43 ºC.
Any help is appreciated.
