Most likely is that there is some connection or other playing up inside. Check the seating of everything including circuit cards.

On the less likely front is the power cord itself, its socket, or even a dry joint (poor solder connection on the motherboard).

If this gets you nowhere fast then we need to know if it shuts off completely (no fans, lights, or any signs/sounds of life).

There are many possible causes I'm afraid but connectors are always prime suspects.

It only applies if you have a seperate graphics card (not one that is a component on your motherboard).

Follow the signal lead back from the monitor, as this plugs into the card (or onboard graphics).

If the board looks like the upstanding one in this picture then you are in business:
SEE PICTURE

You simply unplug any leads that are attached to it, take out the screw at the top and wriggle it out vertically. When it is out, clean its edge connectors with a pencil eraser. It might be worth taking it in and out a couple of times to clear any tarnish off the socket.

Push it back in firmly and reconnect any leads you removed. You do all this with the power lead removed of-course, although it's an idea to just touch the metal case before you pull the plug to ensure any static is discharged from you.

Lot's of words, much easier to do than say.

Have you checked the connections yet? If not do that at the same time.
