Comment:

Over the past 6 months my computer has begun to suddenly shut down without warning. Upon restart there are no error messages that would indicate anything other than a normal shutdown. I've checked system logs looking for errors but have been unable to find anything. Has anyone experienced anything like this? My bet is on a hardware issue versus software, but I'm not exactly sure. Any help would be appreciated.

I had a UPS fail and I saw this behavior. I was about to replace the PSU but instead plugged the computer directly into a surge protector instead of the UPS and it hasn't happened since.

I've seen this problem with a bad board, bad CPU, and bad memory and a bad PSU. Hopefully you have the necessary tools to troubleshoot. If not, it might be worth your while to bring it to a shop to test and pinpoint the problem.

set your PC by unchecking automatically restart so you can get an error message when your PC shuts down.
My PC did the same and it turned out to be a USB_Bugcode_Driver error. I fixed it.
Gateway said it was my power supply. See what your message comes up as and post it.

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks
