Hi, please can someone help me?

My PC turns off without a warning. I can't restart it immidately. But after unplugging power for half an hour or more, the computer can run for a few minutes.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

PS, the computer is pretty old (bought 5 years ago).

It sounds like it's over heating. Check the CPU and power supply fans to make sure they are running at full speed.

It might need a good cleaning out, but do not use a vacuum cleaner, it can cause damage. Use a can of compressed air.

how long does it take to shut down?
what do the lights do on yhe front panel?

if it takes a little while to shut down then i would blame the cpu

if it is constanty shutting down about the same amount of time i would blame the main board

if it shuts down randomly no particular time factor
then you can troublrshoot by taking out unnecessary add ons pci cards hard drives etc etc
when you take these out and the pc stays on then you know you need a psu

Thanks a lot for both of you!

I checked cpu and psu fans and found that the psu fan was running well, but the cpu fan stopped running occasionally during the power on but the computer did not shut down right away. However, after I cleaned fans, this phenomenon did not happen again.

The computer shuts down in a second and the front lights are off too.

This morning, I tried to run the computer again. The running time before it shutting down is random. The first time of running lasted the longest, and then the running time became shorter and shorter. It restarted by itself contunually for 5 times before it was completely off.

BTW, I forgot to mention that I updated a software (online phone) to its beta version the night when the computer began to have problem. Is it possible that the software causes the problem?
