i just upgraded my RAM on my Asus U43 series from the standard 4gb to 8gb. after i made the install, everything seems to be happening slower. pages take longer to open in chrome, fps drops below 10 on most online games, and most annoying: start up takes what feels like 4 times as long. it was so bad that i thought i had broken it after i first installed it and started it up again. it almost seemed frozen.

I've been told by pretty much everyone i know that adding more RAM is a good thing, so why would this be any different?

What were the specs of the old ram vs the new ram and what slots have you installed them in? For best performance, the ram should be identical in specs. Check especially for voltage on the chips.

Adding more RAM will only make the system run better if you don't have enough RAM in the 1st place. But it certainly shouldn't slow the system down. Post the info grasshopper as for.

I bought the RAM in a two pack, so i assume that they are pretty much identical.

the new RAM is two corsair 4gb sticks 1333MHz

the old RAM was two elpida 2gb sticks, but i don't know the speed.

and i installed the RAM in the only two slots this laptop has, the ones accessible from the memory panel on the bottom.
