I am using a damaged HP/Compaq NC8230 laptop. A few months previously, my mother dropped it and damaged the motherboard, rendering the screen and wireless adapter inoperable. I use a run-of-the-mill 17" LCD monitor to run the computer, and it all works out fine for gaming and business alike.
But now it's just not working. I turn on the power switch, it seems to start up properly, then it just stops. The power is on, the wireless thing is on, but I can't see anything on my screen and my hammering at the keyboard does nothing.
If there could be any solutions, please provide them. I have been using the laptop heavily over the past few days and it was completely fine at its last shutdown. Also, I have checked the connection between the monitor, the CD drive and the battery, and it all seems fine.

The damage at the beginning when your mom dropped it was not as severe as what it is now. Before when you could use another monitor to run the system, the motherboard was not as damaged. Some electrical problem happened inside the motherboard or some physical contact trauma has rendered the motherboard inoperable.
Motherboard is dead. Get a new one.
