Hi please help me I am experiencing shutdowns,on my computer When I run MSword application when I click on the menubar on Insert and some other functions it Shuts Down, also when I ran Photoshop when loading it shuts down and the power led stays on but the cpu is off, and I have to push it for three secs to turn off then on again even how many tries using the same applications it turns off.

Now I have partitioned and reformatted my drive and reinstall windows XP then install word then it runs okay, but in photoshop it still shuts off. I decided to change my power supply it is 350 watt change to 300 watt from my other computer, then photoshop runs.

Now the problem is when playing a DVD using powerDVD it shuts down on 1/4 part of the movie, and also I tried Prime95 for stabilty of cpu when I run the test it shuts down the cpu after 8 secs. Please help me with my CPU problem. It must be a hardware problem?

firstly i notice that you do not have enough Ram. i would look in to gettiing some more atleast 512 or 1gig.

ok do this

click Start
right click my computer
go to properties
go to the Advanced tab
under startup and recovery click settings
then uncheck the box that says "automatically restart"

this should throw you an error rather than switching the computer off. then we can try to repair the proplem provided that it is a software related error and not hardware.

i assumed preiviously that it was your psu, you say you have changed it, 300 watt really isnt much for a p4 and also 300watt doesnt tell us much, the amperage is what we need to know. what is the make and model of this psu? do you know the amperage output per +12v rail? it could be written on the pus sticker.

try the above first if this still happens then i would most certainly say that you need for RAM and a better psu.

I don't know why some people are so quick to pull the trigger on reformatting? Reformatting & reinstalling XP isn't gonna fix what is most likely a hardware problem. The power supply may or may not be to blame, but I would check for an overheating CPU.

And you definitely need more RAM.

The My computer settings trick doesn't work, also my PSU is ATX-300 +12V 9A, it can't be overheating because I just turned on the computer when I test it for stability test with prime95 it shuts off after 4-5 secs.

The CPU can get very hot immediatly doesnt have to be running for long to overheat. i think your PSU is no way powerful enough. check the CPU fan is it spinning? thing is my old machine used to do this, it shut down after booting and it because the CPU fan wasnt spinning properly. check the the fan is sittin properly on the CPU, sometimes the clips come loose or the retention bracket can break. open the pc hold the CPU heatsink and Fan assembly and move it very slowly to see if it has come loose, the boot up see if the fan actually spins.
