Wasn't sure where to put this question so I'll try here.

Okay I just got a new computer from a small shop with:

AMD fx-57 processor

2x 7800gtx 256mb vid cards running in SLI

4 gigs of ram

I'm running on Windows XP (service pack 2) and whenever I try to install things, half of (at least) the things I download are "corrupted." Now I'm pretty sure this isn't true as I've downloaded these things in the same place before on my last computer. Any suggestions on what to do? Some of the files I'm trying to install/have tried include: newest nvidia driver, battlefield 2 v1.2 patch, core media player, winrar. Any help would be appreciated.

Also the whole thing is underperforming pretty badly from what I've been reading elsewhere. Doing worse than it should on benchmarks, less FPS than it should in games, etc etc. If I could get some suggestions on what to try, that would be great.

There are well documented issues with XP running with 4GB of memory. Plus SLI can actually decrease performance over a single card in many games! (Look at the benchmarks in this article) So, it could be one or both of those things.

If it were me I would try runnig the computer with 2GB of RAM and 1 video card. If it all works well, then you know it is one of those two things.

Then you could either try adding the 2nd video card or the other 2GB of RAM to see how it does. If that works try adding the other component. In any event, you should do some searching regarding XP and 4GB of RAM as there are some registry tweaks you need to amke in order for it to operate efficiently with that amount.

Take it back to the small shop and allow them to fix the computer or get your money back.

BTW, mine works great and I'll be more than happy to trade ya....:-)
