Computer Problems - won't boot

Specs: Windows XP
We have a Dell XPS 600. I think it either got a virus or the kids messed something up. I'm really hoping to recover pictures on this computer. I'm not very computer literate but am hoping maybe someone could help. When we turn it on it says:
Ctr N to access Raid Utility and then Sata timeout on port. I found a way to run the hard drive diagnostics and it says Pass on 1 and 2. I got into the setup and when I look at the drives it says not present. When I change them from Raid On to just On, they don't say not present but then when I turn it back on nothing comes up - just a blank screen with flashing cursor. Unfortunately, if we made a boot disk, I can't find it. Is there a way to purchase one in case this might help? I did try putting the Windows XP cd in the drive and trying to boot from the disk drive but this didn't work. Any suggestions?

Also forgot to mention that this computer was connected to another using a router. The good computer can't see the bad one anymore (or at least I don't know how to get it to see it).
