Hey, I built a computer at home from parts I purchased. The computer was working fine for a few days, but then it happened that the first time every day I would boot it up, it would go normal for about 2 seconds, then it would give about a five second long beep, and after a short pause, would repeat. I know this usually has to do with some bad connections, so I pulled the ram out and reinserted it, and did the same with the processor. This did not help. I then put it on its side to have better access to the components, and when I next tried to turn it on, it booted up fine. So I proceded to place it upright, and it froze. So I finished putting it upright, and then turned it on again. It would not boot up, the original problem was happenening. So I placed in on its side and tried again. It would boot up fine. So it doesn't boot up when it is standing upright, but it will boot up on its side. What's wrong?? Thanks!

try tightening all connections, such as IDE cables, sounds like something is loose (as you mentioned)

You didn't drop any small screws when assembling did you? If a screw is floating around in there between the case and MB your symptoms could be explained. Just a guess. I would suggest stripping the MB down to just 1 stick of memory,processer/heatsink/fan, Video card. Remove the MB from the case, reseat the items mentioned above, and setup outside. Lay MB on non conductive surface, such as foam pad that came in MB box. Reconnect cables and try to boot. Make sure to use the metal standoffs supplied with case and use all that will align up with screw hole in MB. Just thought of something, is the processor a slot type? If so, the processor needs additional support. You didn't say if the parts you bought were new. AGP cards require quite a bit of force to properly seat.

If you check it our and come up zero, re-check that nothing on the bottom of your mobo is shorting out on the case. I had a build once where I finally had to put strips of Scotch boxing tape to cover the bottom of the metal case, and ended my problems! I spent one whole day trying to figure out where the short was coming from, never did. Computer is still running great to this day.
