I put a new motherboard in my computer last night, but even when the computer is off the keyboard and mouse are still on and running. I have a light up optical mouse, so its easy to verify that it hasent turned off.

Do you have a wireless keyboard & mouse? If so, I believe they stay on because they run on batteries. If not wireless then you are probably not shut down but in sleep mode.

All ATX case/motherboards have power to them all the time. That's why the power-on button is attached to the motherboard and not a rocker switch like the older AT models. So.......this means that the components like keyboards and mouse have power all the time. If your power supply has an on/off switch you could power off after shutting down with it, or at the power strips if you have one. But I would not worry about it too much.
PS: This is why you NEED to unplug the power supply whenever you work on an ATX machine.

Are you sure the computer is POWERING down, not just shutting down win xp? Micro$oft have patches on their site for power down issues. My wireless kb/mouse receiver unit has a light on it (plugged in k/b and p/s2 ports), and the light does go off after powerdown. Also my USB connection light goes off cable modem after powerdown.

That's correct, with ATX mbs, your keyboard and mouse will always have power regardless of whether or not your computer is on. The only way to get those to power down is to flip the switch on the back of the ps or unplug the system. I wouldn't bother though because they don't take all that much power and it will end up costing you more time than you realize having to plug it back in every time.

Ive never had this problem before, and i just noticed now that when i shutdown the computer from windows it just restarts. I have to turn off the APM in control panel, and then shut thecomputer offf maunly. Ive worked on computers before when there plugged in, and the will be off, but on this board i got now the keyboard and mouse stay on. Must be some kinda feature i guess.

I don't want to be argumentative but I have a microsoft optical mouse and internet keyboard with integrated USB ports. I'm running Win98se/2000sp4 and when I shut down my mouse and keyboard both shut off. Maybe this has something to do with BIOS options to start the computer. I don't use any myself.

There is options in the BIOS, but i dont know what to do. As long as you guys say it wont effect the operation of my computer then i wont worry about it. Most computers never get turned off, so i shouldnt even worry i guess. Thanx for everyones responces.
