My acer laptop will not start up. The keyboard lights up when i turn it on and the monitor lights up and the fan is going but the screen stays blank. I tried connecting it to another monitor and it still stays blank. I also leave the volume up to see if it truly starts up but the windows sound does not happen. Before this happened windows would freeze almost immediately after I turned on the computer but then it eventually came to this. Any ideas?

Is the PC capable of booting from a floppy or the CD ROM? Try the resore CD ... if that won't boot up, it might be a hardware failure. If you can boot with the CD or the floppy, try using the System Restore feature [but copy any critical data from your HD to a floppy or other backup option first].
