Comment:

The PC has been working fine till today. I turned it on, and no beeps or sounds or anything.

I have removed the PSU, jump it to test it work. The fans works, and all voltages are correct.

When I connect it again to the GA-7VTXE+ Motherboard, it does nothing again.

I have checked the switch is plugged in correctly, and jumped it just in case, but with no joy.

It seems to me like a motherboard problem.

Any advice would be gratefully recieved.

smash,

Yea, you should start a new thread....

I'd say at the very least, you fried the power supply...but the surge may have taken out the CPU, motherboard, or anything else plugged into it. You won't know what was affected until you open the case & start testing the components

Michael Trew,

Just because you jumpered the green/black wires on the PSU & the fan spun up doesn't mean the PSU is good. It may crap out under a load (no puns intended) lol

A fried CPU is another possibility...maybe the CPU fan quit & the CPU overheated & died?

Does your board have any LEDs on it to indicate that it's getting power? Got another PSU you can try?

Thanks for all your replys.

I have tested the CPU Fan with the jumpered PSU, and it works fine, so i doubt the CPU is dead.

No LEDs on the Mb light up, I dont think there are any.

I have tried a smaller (200W) PSU, and this still does not work!

Could the mb have blown out with a power surge perhaps?

THanks again

I had a computer doing almost the same thing .. start it, get nothing.

Scratched head over this for a few days ..

Finally spent $3.50 on new cmos battery, guess what?

Puter works fine again.

Did you check the cmos battery?

Good Luck!

Just checked cmos battery - no difference.

As i did it, noticed that as i press on switch, sometimes the PSU let out a little 'sigh', very qiet, almost inaudiable.

IS this pointing towards a dead psu - yet it didnt work with the other psu either.

Im rather stumped here!

Thanks for your help

I'd say your processor has died.

The processor died, but then I could surly get into the Bios, or at least get something from it.

If the processor had died, could I just replace with a cheapish socket A from dabs?

ps, i have now put the HD in another PC so the biggest worry has been sorted, but need my other pc back asap too!

Hi Mike. I think a lot of us have been in the same boat, at one time or another. It sounds like, for starters, the PSU has gone south on you. If so, it probably took the cpu and MB, too. Whether to chance another cpu as a test is up to you. Likely as not, if your old cpu is fried, the new one will be, too.

I would opt for a complete new build; MB, cpu and PSU.

I hope this helps. :)
