computer not browsing Mp3 player

Specs: Windows XP
Ok, a friend of mine's father did some computer work for me(free). Im not going to complain but i would like to resolve this issue by myself. Before I could plugin my mp3 player via USB and it would recognize it and an icon would pop up in the "My Computer" section. I could then browse at my leisure on the device.

After the work was preformed I plug in my Mp3 player and 2 icons pop up,.. the original when opened is blank. then second lets me browse. Also to note, previously I could create files and folders inside the device while browsing, now I have to create the folders on my pc and the drag them onto the device. Kind of funky.

Since the screw up i have been "dealing" with it. Until a co-worker asked me to look and better organized/tag his mp3s for him. My pc wont give me the 2 icons on his mp3 player, just one.. and it opens blank.

Question: How do I fix this problem?

If you, or anyone, have unplugged the drive while Windows was running without clicking on the Safely Remove Hardware icon and STOPping accessing the drive, you may have damaged the data on the drive. In that case, you can usually fix that problem by using certain programs to repair the data damage.
