i just downloaded and used DVD shrink program, and while i was using it, the computer crashed. I waited for about an hour and was pretty it's not going to come back alive, so i pressed the power button and shut it down. When i reboot the computer, all i get is a black screen. When i reboot the computer in diagnostic mode, it tells me that there is a problem with the hard drive. it's funny because when i used the knoppix linux live cd to boot up the computer, it is able to access the hard drive. Can anyone tell me what's going on? Thank you!

This can occur if there is damage or corruption to the master boot record or the boot sector. Common messages for this is 'boot record not found' for the mbr. Missing OS if the boot files are damaged.
To fix the master boot record, boot from a boot disk (Win98 or me), at the dos prompt type "fdisk /mbr" and press enter.
