Computer not booting all of a sudden

April 17, 2013 at 04:09:26
Specs: Windows 7, 4 Gig
Woke up one morning, computer wouldn't boot, no beep at the start, no display, nothing. Tried several times. Tried again a few hours later and it managed to load into Windows. The Red light on my case for my HDD switched off completely and my power button wouldn't turn the computer off at all (even after holding it for 15 seconds) and now it isn't even booting at all again, never had issues before now and most of the parts are brand new.

Chances are the power supply is bad.

How do you know when a politician is lying? His mouth is moving.

"... never had issues before now and most of the parts are brand new."
If this is an upgrade, possibly a major upgrade, we need to know this. Please include system make and model (if mfg'd system) or a list of all components, and a list of all upgraded components. Then outline the method you used to upgrade (all at once, gradually (one piece at a time), or in 'spurts') and how long has it been at its current configuration.
Important are the makes and model numbers of components and settings used and on the power supply, include a list of all specs (or a link) that include not only wattage, but all of the individual amperages from the label.
At this time, there are too many possibilities to begin to list until we have more information.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Could anyone have messed with the computer without you knowing? I ask because that's kind of the way a computer acts if the power supply has a 115/230 voltage switch and it's in the wrong position. It certainly wouldn't hurt to check that.

IF your PSU has that switch make sure it's in the correct position. DON'T GUESS. And if it does need to be changed make sure the power cord is disconnected when you do it.
