Hello everyone. Just put together a system with a DG33TL intel board and it doesnt want to turn on. I have tried alot of things to fix the problem. First i figured it was the PSU, but that wasnt it, replaced it with a BFG 550watt and it does the same thing. Next i figured it was a bad board, RMA'ed it, got a new one. Same Problem. Even before all that, i noticed that whenever the GFX was not in the PCI-E slot, it would run just fine on the integrated video. Whenever i put it back, there is no power flow. The mobo light is on but the fans dont spin up and absolutely nothing happens. Lastly, get this, when i shift all the components back to an older intel board with an E6600, it works just fine. Boots up, everything is fine and dandy. Im thinking that there is some sort of compatibility problem between the 8800GTS and the DG33TL intel board. Any other ideas as to why the PC wont turn on with the card in?!

Ram that works in another mboard , or any ram you buy or have lying around, may not work properly, or sometimes, not at all - even if it physically fits and is the right overall type (e.g. DDR, DDR2, etc.; PCxxxx, xxx mhz) for your mboard. In the worst cases of incompatibilty your mboard WILL NOT BOOT with it installed, and the mboard may not beep - the ram has to be compatible with the mboard and it's chipset.

See response 5 in this for some info about ram compatibilty, and some places where you can find out what will work in your mboard for sure:

Correction to that:
Mushkin www.mushkin.com

Once you know which module ID strings work in your mboard, you can get them from anywhere you like that has ram with those ID strings.

It is easy to test for incompatible ram that has caused your mboard to fail to boot.

Make sure you have a speaker or speakers connected to the mboard so you can hear mboard beeps (see your mboard manual).
Remove the AC power to the case/power supply.
Remove all the ram.
Restore AC power.
Try to boot.
If nothing else is wrong, you will hear a pattern of beeps that indicate no ram is installed, or a ram problem.
E.g. for an Award bios or a bios based on one, that's often a beep of about a half second, silence for a half second, a beep of about a half second, silence for a half second, continuously.

8800 series card (pci-e 2.0) may not be compatible with some pci-e 1.0 boards, although it is supposed to be backward compatible....

You might also want to go into the BIOS to see if it is set to boot up from the onboard video first. Change that to boot up from PCI express first, if that is an option.

Tried all of that. cept the CMOS thing. Will try that. Ram is ok, and video card should be compatible.
