can someone please help me? my computer (333 mhz, AMD K6) is making a extended high pitch noises for extended periods of time. I know that it is not coming from my moniter as i used to have an old moniter that did that. But, i found out that whenever it starts to emit that sound, the power light on the computer starts to flash.. i opened it, and i am not sure if it is the fans or not, how would i know? they seem to be running. Any help would be greatly appreciated! thnx!!! oh yes, and i have a matrox graphics card, it also seems to preform slowly when the high pitch noise is emitted...

My bet is the CPU fan. A CPU will slow down if it's over heating because of a fan problem.

It's the fan. What else is there to make a whining noise? You do not have that many constantly moving parts in your computer. Your hard drive is one, but it makes dull noises.
The fan should not make any voice-level noise, so replace it before it continues on its path to slowly not working at all. You can also wait till it dies, if you can stand the noise (it can be really loud).
