computer keeps shutting itself down

November 27, 2009 at 11:06:41
Specs: Windows Vista

I have a gateway dx 4800 desktop. it has 6 gigs of memory and 640 gigabytes ram. it keeps shutting itself off by itself no warning. when i reboot it it keeps saying my computer wasn't shut down properly. i checked my bios and the cpu temp was 44 degrees and my system temp was 86 degrees. i watched it a few minutes and the system temp started climbing. i had only had the computer on for 30 seconds and it had been shut down since yesterday morning. can you help me troubleshoot this problem?

Your CPU appears to be overheating. Is the CPU fan turning fast? Is the inside of the case full of dust & tint? Blow it out using compressed or canned air. When blowing out, do the power supply from both ends. This will be messy so you may want to take the case to a location where the dust won't be an issue.

DO NOT vacuum it.

BTW, Your memory is the RAM (Random Access Memory). The 640GB is obviously the storage capacity of your hard drive.
