Subject: Computer keeps restarting...OS: Windows XPCPU/Ram: Intel Pentium 4 ProcessorManufacturer/Model: HP |
Comment: I recently installed a new 500 watt Power Supply, after my old one died on me. Now my computer keeps retstarting at random with no warnings whatsoever. I don't get any messages or anything, I'll just be in the middle of something, and it will restart. I noticed that it does this after I've been using it for a while. It never used to do this before... Any thoughts on what might be happening? Could it have something do with with the new PSU?

Reply: (edit)Yes it could if it is not made for the HP PC and is not properly vented then the case is getting too hot. Does that machine really only have 32 mb RAM? A P4 would come with at least 512 mb RAM. Bryan

Reply: (edit)Did you buy a good name brand PSU & pay at least $50 for it? or did you buy an el-cheapo generic? Posting the make/model of the PSU you bought would be helpful. Random restarting is a classic symptom of a weak PSU. How about explaining the circumstances of the death of your other PSU...it may have damaged some other components on it's way out.

Reply: (edit)I bought an Antec brand PSU, and I payed more than $50 for it. I had to buy a new one because my old one refused to power back up after the power went out in my room. I thought maybe it was just the PSU, and I was relieved to find out that it seemed like the case after I installed this new one. Now I'm not so sure. Does anyone have any ideas what it might be? Bryco: It is 512. Sorry, I have no idea why I put 32 :\
