computer keeps on turning off

OK I need help this is the second computer that i screwed up not for the same reason.
my comp keeps turning off when i am about to do something when it has been started. so my computer start corractly and than just when my dextop is shown in 2-3 min its automaticly turnd off and it tries to start again which it does and than the same thing occurs. I changed the ram 3 times and still the samething happened. i tried my hard drive on my other comp and its all ok but when i bring it beck to the screweed comp its not working and the same problem heppens. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO HELP!!!! PlZ
btw my broken computer has 256 ram, pentium 3, and 500 mhz. i know its old but it was working fine all the otehr time
i know that i can reformat my hard drve but there is some inportant data on this computers hard drive plz help me ill greatfully apperacite it

You're not giving nearly enough info...
It could be that your power supply is too weak, or it could be a software problem. You need to change the setting so that it doesn't automatically restart when there's a problem:
1. right click on My Computer 2. select Properties 3. click the Advanced tab 4. under Startup & Recovery, click Settings 5. under System Failure, uncheck the box next to Automatically Restart
If it is a software issue, next time there's a problem, you'll get an error message rather than a reboot.

ya ok it cant be power problm cause my mouse and my printer always stays on
and i cant go to the properties menu like u said cause i only have about 1 min before the computer automaticly turns off but my otehr ezuipment stays on like the mouse charger and internet modam.
its just that the cpu turns off and comp reboots it self and same process continius
