Upon the suggestion of a friend, I started updating my drivers for the hardware on my computer. He told me that certain drivers were out of date and gave me a small list. I updated the graphics driver and then updated the Intel 945 chipset. It asked me if I wanted to restart and I said yes. It shutdown, started to restart then shutdown again, and is now in this loop of shutdown, restart. Nothing appears on the screen - it always shows off - DVD and CD lights flash on computer and you can hear the hum of the HD spin and then it shutsdown and starts the whole process again. Any suggestions how to correct this? I have apparently misplaced the system disks that came with the computer (I do have the application disks that came with it, but can't find the system disks).

I'm assuming that if this is a desktop computer your monitor is plugged into the proper port. E.g. if you have both onboard video and a video card in the slot, you get video only from the one on the card in the slot on almost all mboards.
It's a good idea to reboot after each install when installing several drivers. That way at least you know what probably caused the problem if there is a problem.
If those drivers you mention are the only ones you installed at that time, your problem was probably not caused by the Intel main chipset drivers.
More likely it was caused by the graphics drivers. Sometimes right after you install graphics drivers you get no display in Windows, and in rare cases you don't get a display even before Windows loads, because the display adapter is not detecting your monitor properly and doesn't know what settings to use.
Try booting into Enable VGA mode.
Press F8 repeatedly while the computer is booting starting near the beginning of the boot after you hear the mboard beep, don't hold it down, until you see the boot choices menu appears-
choose Enable VGA mode instead of Safe mode (you may get no display in Safe mode either, and you can do more things in Enable VGA mode).Enable VGA mode loads Windows normally except the display is forced into a default VGA mode all mboards and video cards support - the specific drivers for the video card are not loaded. If your problem is caused by the display drivers, you should get to the Windows desktop.
If you manage to get to the desktop
- Win XP is set by default to automatically reboot when it encounters an unrecoverable error.
To have XP possibly display an error message you can investigate instead of the computer rebooting:
1. Click Start, and then right-click My Computer.
2. Click Properties.
3. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
4. Under System failure, click on the small box beside Automatically restart to remove the checkmark.
5. Click OK, and then click OK.If you then get an error message, look at all of it's details.
- go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and un-install the display drivers you just installed
Try rebooting normally.
You should get a display, and possibly an BSOD error message, or another error message, rather than the mboard rebooting. If you still get no display, start up in Enable VGA mode again,
RIGHT click on a blank part of the main desktop screen, choose Properties (takes you to Display Properties) - Settings - Advanced - Monitor - Driver - and specify Plug and Play Monitor there, save settings, reboot normally again.
