Solved Computer in endless loop of restarting

September 22, 2012 at 10:43:47
Specs: Windows xp
My computer keeps restarting on its own. I get to the main start up screen and it says :
Press DEL to run Setup, press TAB to display BIOS Post message.
After a while the computer goes to a screen that says:
Pri Master Hard Disk S.M.A.R.T. Command failed. Press F1 to continue.
So when I press F1 the first time it took me to a page that said:
Reboot and select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key.
I then pressed Enter and it said:
A disk error has occurred
Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart.
Now its in an endless loop of restarting. PLEASE HELP!!

EDIT: My comp is now doing a check for consistency on one of the disks. Don't know what this means but its only on stage 1 of 3 will edit later if this works when it finishes.
SECOND EDIT: Comp stuck at 8% completion of stage 2.

Looks like the hard drive that contains Windows has failed unfortunately. All hard drives fail sooner or later, that's why keeping your data backed up on a different drive is so important. You will have to replace the drive with a new one.
