Computer hangs after Bios screen

Hey all.
I have an AMD k6 2-500 CPU/MB and for some reason after the bio screen disappears the computer hangs and the monitor loses connection. After a few moments if I hit any key, they monitor will click in and out 2-3 times and then the computer will boot up fine.
