Specs: Vista 32 bit
hi, my problem is my toshiba laptop freezes while
loading the startup programs after windows start. I'm
running vista 32bit, there's no noise coming from
anything. I tried to do a startup repair from the
recovery, but no problem found. Then I tried windows
memory diagnostic tool, still no problem found. Domt
know what to do. Any advice??

So do you only get the splash screen or does it get to the desktop with Icons then freeze?

If the latter you may want to check the apps you have to auto-run. You can simply do a regedit and go to HKLM\software\Microsoft\windows\current version\run. This is where all of the apps that auto-run on start up are.

You can review each one to see if they are valid by Googleng them to see what they are. If you have one you have a question about or think is the problem, post it back and we can see if it is.

You can also think back to when it started and if you installed any thing then. If you did you may want to uninstall it to see if it is the problem.

In a quiet room, listen to hear if the fans are whirring, also look at them to see if they are moving.

You should run a HDD (hard disk drive) diagnostic test with the HDD manufactures diagnostics tool via a bootable floppy or CD disk:

- Western Digital: DataLifeGuard,
- Maxtor/Seagate: SeaTools
- Fujitsu: FJDT (Fujitsu Drive Test).
- Hitachi: HDFT (Hitachi Drive Fitness tester).
- Samsung: HUTIL.
- Toshiba (doesn’t have a HDD utility): SeaTools or HDFT may work though.

Just another stupid saying...

If it is freezing at random spots then it points to the problem being a hard ware issue like PC GEEK suggests. Try booting from the Windows System disk and go into the recovery console. Then run CHKDSK C: to check your hard drive. If it reboots this way then the problem points to your computer over heating and you may want to check out your fans.
