Strange problem. A friends computer began freezing on boot up right after it displays the name of the processor. I took it to my house to check it out, and it worked fine, no problems at all. Took it back to their house, and the same boot problem showed up. I switched the electrical outlet to a different one, tried with and without a surge protector, tried with different keyboard, mouse, even monitor, and power cables. I also unplugged all the drives except the boot drive, and reset the bios, resat the memory. Video is onboard, no add in cards. Nothing worked. I again took it home, and it worked flawlessly from the time I turned it on at my house. I again took it back to the owner, and it is displaying the same freeze up problem on bootup. This computer used to work fine at my friends house until recently. It works fine at my house. What could be the problem here? I am totally stumped.

So far, you did everything I would have done. I would take a closer look at the AC outlets. I know you said that you tried a different outlet but it still could be on the same circuit. Take it to a different part of the house, where you are sure that it's a separate circuit. If you still have the same problem, maybe you could borrow a UPS just for a test.
