hi you may need to boot up from a disk it probaly will be something eather in the bios or windows itself, or, your laptop might have a virus that isn't letting you log on. But no you should be able to fix it yourself it will be something small probaly like a deleted file, you won't have to go to a shop and pay money to get it fixed

You're not giving us enough info.

OS = Operating system...in other words, which version of Windows?

CPU = Central Processing Unit...Intel or AMD & what speed does it run at (1.0GHz, 2.0GHz, 3.0GHz, etc)?

RAM = memory...how much (256MB, 512MB, 1GB, etc)?

Compaq?? What's the model number?

And you need to be specific as to what's popping up on your screen when you try to bootup. Also, what have you tried so far to fix it, if anything? Did you make any changes to your system (add or remove software) just before the problem began?

"And that's the fishing line, because Sharkboy said so!"

Also, describe the screen that it freezes at.

And try tapping the F8 key every couple of seconds or so during the boot to see if you can get a menu screen. If you do, select 'Safe mode' and see if the system comes up.

I had a very similar problem to you with XP rebooting about 20 seconds into XP logo. Turned out that a file in Windows/Sytem32, userinit.exe, was missing altogether!

We copied userinit.exe over from another computer and all was good.

Could be worth checking.
