computer failure?

My friend from Sweden sent me an email saying his computer went down. He wrote this: "Its the mainboard i guess. Everything just turned black and i cant make it work again. Screen goes into sleeping mood i think and the keyboard dont even light up on n and c lock. That must be the mianboard or processor i think. If it was the harddrive it should load and say system failure i think. You can let me know what u think there. Its just black and dont even say what ram or anything i got. cant use bootdisk either." I don't know what system he has but he told me one time he had an AMD fast processor, over 1 ghz. Please help if you can, these boards are so good. Thanks
