I updated to SP2 earlier today, and for one it took forever, ok so it got done, and i restarted, it sat at the blue screen "windows is shutting down" for at least 10-15 minutes, so i was like ok...i powered down, and now when i turn the computer back on, it doesnt come on, i meann all the insides come on, fans whir, etc, but the monitor just sits there, no beeps, green light on monitor just flashes, doesnt do anything, tried messin with the monitor, nothing, rest of system seems to be on, so now i think i might of done something to the video card, when i turned if off. I was thinking hd, but you dont need a hd to get a post, it will just fail out after post, so i think its probally video card....any suggestions or help?
by the way...i hate SP2...so many problems, i only did it because of automatic updates, and i had to update microsoft frameworks 1.1 or whatever for a program, so i went ahead and updated everything...and now i regret it.

When you say "powered down" do you mean you held the power button in until it shut down?
Of all times not to do that after a service pack, I mean it will take forever to shut down and boot up because of the service pack!
Even though your lights and fans work inside, I would bet on PSU anyway if you did what I asked. You shocked the system and a slightly underpowerd Psu could have caved in. only other thing could be coincidence with loose ram, hard drive or video card and you should try reseating all them.

OH and a P.S.
How do you know you hate SP2 since you haven't booted to it yet?
Frankly SP2 is the best service pack I have ever seen from Ms, to I take exception to that comment. But in the quest for stability, it will show up any problems you hadn't seen, or were hiding under the rug.

i have had SP2 before, and i had problems, but this is a new hd, and i had not planned on updating, but i needed Framework 1.1 for a program so i was like ok i will just update everything
and yes i held the power down, it usually doesnt take the computer THAT long to restart, i know it takes longer, but i mean it had been like 10+ minutes
and i know that powering down hurts, its just i was impaitent, and now i am paying for it
i reseated everything, and reset the cmos etc, still nothing, i get no beeps, no screen, and i tried a different video card.
not overheating, everything is plugged in right, haent touched the system since i built it 2 years ago
i will try another PSU, and make sure my internal speaker is plugged in, its really odd its not beeping, but i've never unplugged the internal speaker to my knowledge, so it should still work, will check it
and yeah SP2 is ok, just dont like all the security features, i was fine with SP1, as soon as i tried SP2 it messed me up, its like a curse
thanx

Brandon,
SP2 install may have gotten corrupt, or may have hung on a driver, etc. At this point your only option may be to repair XP from the XP CD, which will "replace" corrupted system files, and bring you back to XP pre-SP2.
Then backup your files and do a clean install of XP.
As Rich has mentioned, XPSP2 offers stability not seen by any previous M$ Windows OS.

yeah thats what i will do eventuall...but i think you miss the point of my probelm
the computer DOES NOT BOOT, so yeah if i could it post, then i could put my All-Windows DVD and all would be good, but you see my computer when i power it on, just sits there, green light on monitor flashing, nothing else, no beeps, no nothing, have tried every component replace, reseat, reset cmos, everything, and still nothing
so its a motherboard issue, or possibly PSU
thanx for the idea though
although formatting is NOT an option at this point, i just want the computer to get up and going, i really cant afford to lose all the information on the hd, so if i can at least get the computer into bios or post, i will most likely take the hd to another computer, slave boot it ,and back it all up, but right now i cant even get it to post, or beep at all.

Can you still get to the BIOS? If so, you should be able to set your CD drive as the first boot device, boot to your Win XP CD, and run a repair from there.
