Computer does not seem to start

Specs: Windows XP, ?
I recently plugged my computer in again so that I could take some files from it to use on my new laptop. The PC has been stored in my Dads garage for the best part of a year, I dont think there has been any damp, but its likely to have been quite cold in there.
At first when I hooked her up she worked fine. I hooked her up to the laptop to transfer the files over that I wanted, but as I was waiting for them to copy over, the computer shut itself down unexpectedly. I tried to turn it on again but the screen said 'No signal, Entering sleep mode' or something along those lines. This obviously didnt make sense as it had been working a minute ago. The box seemed to still be running, I could hear fans and all the lights were on.
I tried resetting it by turning the power button on the back off then on again as the one on the front doesnt turn it off. I had the same message again. I did this a few times, and tried turning it off at the plug socket a few times too. Still the same.
I dont know what to do. Im not a computer expert in any sense. Ive never had a problem with this PC in all the years Ive had it.

Did you allow the computer to first warm up and acclimate to the inside temps before turning it on?

You could have condensation inside if you didn't.

othehill has a good point. I would take the side panel off and see what's going on. I have mice that build a nest inside my lawn tractor air filter every year. Might sound bizarre, but you never know. Good Luck...

Keep Smiling
It makes them think you're up to something...
