This is an update on a previous thread, problem still exists.

My computer crashes whenever I play a game. This started happening after I upgraded to a Radeon X1650PRO from my Radeon X700. What happens is that the game starts, plays for a few minutes, and then the screen goes black and the computer screeches computer noise and is unresponsive. What should I do?

Upgrading the power supply from 160w to 530w did not fix the problem.

Computer:
* 2.5GHz Pentium 4
* SAPPHIRE 100174L Radeon X1650PRO 256MB GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X CrossFire Support
* 2x 512MB DDR RAM
* 530w power supply
* SB Audigy
* 110GB HD (30% free)

After switching back to the X700 the program no longer persists. Does this mean that the X1650 sent by the manufacturer was bad?

Did you remove the ATI drivers completely before installing the X1650?

Here's a link to the latest Catalyst drivers (v7.7) for your card. I suggest getting Option 2, the 'driver only' version w/o the Catalyst Control Center. Download it & save to your HDD:

Catalystâ„¢ 7.7 driver

Before swapping back to the X1650 & installing the new drivers, the old driver version should be uninstalled & Driver Cleaner Pro used be used to clean up the the mess.

Here's a direct link to Driver Cleaner Pro v1.5:

Driver Cleaner Pro v1.5

After uninstalling the old drivers & cleaning up with Driver Cleaner, shutdown & swap the cards. When you reboot, cancel out of any attempts to install drivers for the video, then manually install the new v7.7 drivers that you just downloaded.

Cool thank you for the help. I decided to trade the card in for an 8600GTS anyway, so I'll use the Driver Cleaner to clean up the Catalyst drivers before I make the switch to NVIDIA.
