The computer is a Dell Dimension 8200. It has a Seagate 80GB SATA hard drive. Because of a bad virus infection, I had to re-format the hard drive and start all over. Only this time I am trying to install a new version of Windows XP Pro and not the Dell Restore OS CD. In the Bios I rearranged the boot sequence to CD 1st and HDD 2nd. After applying power and the CD goes through the priliminary Windows Setup, it stops at where is asks if your want to install Windows or Repair. No matter what key I press, I get the same message that the computer does not detect a hard drive in the system. What am I doing wrong? In the Bios it shows the HDD installed along with all the other drives in the system. It also shows that an IDE is not installed, but a SATA is installed. What else am I suppose to do. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

During the initial setup you are prompted to press F6 if you need to instal SATA drivers. You need to do that. If you do not have a driver disk for the PC then go to Dell and download it.
I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

Thank you for your quick response. It all makes sense now. I will try this as soon as I have access to the computer. It belongs to a friend of mine. Thanks again for your help.

Yep, you need SATA drivers first.
