computer cannot find my hard drive

January 25, 2011 at 13:12:00
Specs: Windows XP
I got my sons old dell computer that had the HD removed, and I installed one from my computer. F2 recognizes my hard drive just fine, but when I try to install xp, it loads almost completely, and then says it cannot find my HD. It is the only HD in it. Bill

Dell M/N WHL ST DQWJG51 SC 29924946037 Made 8/11/04 HD Seagate 7200.11 640 Gbytes there is no jumper This worked fine in my Dell 8400 as a back up drive, it had XP pro on it, but I think I lost it trying to make it work. The one I want it in was XP home, and I have the disc.

This does not seem to help, The only way I can get it to boot at all is to use the 6 floppy disc set for installing XP. And it gives me no opportunity to load the diagnostic disc or any thing else. The new HD had XP on it when first installed, (which I lost trying to get it work). F2 identifies the hard drive, but when trying to install the program, it cannot find it, Thanks.
