When I log on to my computer a screen appears displaying the message "Disk 0 cannot be detected. Press F1 to continue or F2 for setup." If I press F1 the computer will go to the user account screen and allow me to log on. I have reset my computer to the factory settings but this message always displays. Also, I cannot find my d: drive in my computer or if I input a cd or dvd in my dvd drive the computer does not do anything. What have I done wrong and how can I fix this problem?
Resetting to factory defaults probably was not a good move, but since it's a Dell, there probably aren't too many "tweakable" settings anyway.
How about a more detailed explanation of what happened & what you did to troubleshoot? Is this a new DVD drive or an existing drive? If it's a new one, did you set the jumper correctly? All cables are correctly attached?

This is an existing DVD drive. It is the original drive that came with the system. What happen is a virus was detected on my system and I was unable to log into the computer so I went into setup and tried to change some settings to the system. I was able to remove the virus but now I am unable to remove the message or install any software from my dvd/cd drive. You have any suggestions or do you need more information?
Thanks,

Hi, DVD/CD drive does not need any drivers loaded to read CDs only. Windoze has the drivers for that. If you can't read CDs then something is wrong with the drive or its cables or junpers. If it does read a known good CD then try reinstalling your burner software. If XP then try a sys restore. XP has the drivers for the burner. Good Luck, Jim

maybe you disable the secondary IDE controller in the BIOS, when you try to fix the virus problem.
