Infrquent serious humming/vibration noise at startup(and continues)until i 'rap' the tower somewhat against the wall, then stops. Is not CD, and fan runs smoothly too. Cannot make it do this either, with cover off. Stopping fan quickly makes no changes. Appears to come from the 'side' of the tower unit; not power supply in rear or anywhere else...

Check for loose parts, wires and cables that may be vibrating. It can be annoying and hard to track down.

How old is your hard drive?
Noise could sound as its coming from one place, but really be in another. Keep your cover off until you hear the noise. When noise starts up again try to trace root location. Hard drives will start making vibrating noise as they go bad.
